RME CEO Bill Staby Elected to Lead U.S. Standards Development Team

November 9th, 2016

At the annual meeting of the National Committee that represents the United States at the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in Geneva, Switzerland, RME CEO Bill Staby was elected to Head the U.S. delegation to IEC Technical Committee 114 (TC 114) which, since 2008, has been developing technical standards for wave, tidal and other water current converters.
The U.S. delegation to TC-114 comprises over 60 industry professionals who volunteer their time to collaborate with representatives from 18 other countries on 16 special-purpose committees in the development of standards for marine energy converters of all kinds.
RME CEO Bill Staby commented, “I’m honored to have been entrusted with job of leading the United States’ efforts in this important endeavor. Without a firm foundation of consensus-based, internationally-recognized standards, the nascent marine renewable energy industry cannot really thrive. I’d like to thank the Wind and Water Power Program at the U.S. Department of Energy for providing funding that allows our U.S. team to fully participate in all TC 114 meetings. It would be fair to say that, as a result, the United States is the recognized leader in the development of these standards.”
